Government Relations Update
The FY17 NDAA passed in the U.S. Senate on Thursday, 8 December. Ninety-two senators backed the $618.7 billion National Defense Authorization Act, and seven opposed it. The Bill makes US Cyber Command, currently reporting to US Strategic Command, a Combatant Command. The position of undersecretary of defense for acquisition, technology, and logistics will continue through 2017 but will be divided into two positions in 2018 as the USD R&E (Research and Engineering) and USD Acquisition and Sustainment. The Bill does provide for a 2.1 percent pay raise for our troops and increases Air Force end strength to 321,000.The bill now goes to the White House for President Barack Obama to veto or sign into law.
