An Update from AFA Government Relations

The Government Relations team at AFA has gotten off to a strong start in 2016. Led by Kristine Robbins, the team has stayed busy with Capitol Hill meeting, sponsoring bi-weekly AF 101 series to educate staff on Air Force issues, and hosting receptions for Congressional staff.  Most recently discussion have centered around the Fiscal Year 2017 President’s Budget proposal (click here for a quick rundown).  AFA has recently signed onto two important letters that are currently being debated:

·         AFA supports legislation to reinstate inurnment and full military honors eligibility for the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASPs) at Arlington National Cemetery

·         AFA supports legislation to enhance the Utah Test and Training Ranges which would allow the Department of Defense (DoD) to better support advanced weapons system tests, including those of the F-35, F-22, Long Range Strike Bomber, Long Range Stand Off and hypersonic weapons

Also, AFA’s Langley Chapter recently traveled from Langley AFB to Capitol Hill to sit in on a House Armed Services Committee and meet with members of Congress. After their visit, they joined General Spencer and General Barrett at AFA National for a tour a brief meeting.
