July AFA/Air Force Breakfast Series: Lt Gen Jack Weinstein

On July 21st, 2016 AFA was honored to have hosted another successful breakfast series speaker. This time it was the Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategic Deterrence and Nuclear Integration, Lt Gen Jack Weinstein. The three star general started off his talk remembering the events and tragedy of WWI and WWII. His history lesson referenced that the only time nuclear weapons have been used, was during WWII. Since then no major powers have been at war with each other, in part because of the way nuclear deterrence has helped place the United States in a position of strength. He then discussed how the last time we modernized our nuclear enterprise was in the 1960’s during the Cuban Missile Crisis.M But while the U.S. pressed the pause button on developing our nuclear weapons, other countries didn’t. “Our actions and inactions impact what others do,” Gen Weinstein explained. He emphasized how our mission as the United States Air Force is not to win wars, but to avert them and our nuclear technology is what helps us do so.

Questions from the audience varied from issues concerning morale among missiliers, budget issues, and how civilians can support the nuclear mission. Gen Weinstein welcomed the questions with clear and honest answers praising our hardworking airmen and young leaders. His captivating speech sent airmen, industry partners and foreign allies home with a greater understanding of the U.S. nuclear integration mission and its importance to national security.
