Note from the President
AFA’s National Convention and Air, Space & Cyber Conference were record breaking successes. All of our metrics for success were exceeded and then some. The conference registered 7,300 attendees over the three day event—the largest number of attendees ever! The exhibit hall featured more than 120 exhibitors, and the ‘square footage sold’ increased by 20% over 2015—again, the highest number ever! These numbers highlight that our conference is truly seen as the professional development event for Airmen, one that boasts the hard work of our staff and volunteers.
During AFA’s National Convention, AFA’s delegates met to discuss and vote on a number of measures. One of the many items voted on was the leadership of AFA, with former Secretary of the Air Force F. Whitten Peters being elected as Chairman of the Board and Gavin “Mac” MacAloon being elected as Vice Chairman of the Board for Field Operations. I look forward to working with both of them and all of the newly elected field leaders over the next year.
For me, The Air, Space & Cyber Conference was a highlight. I truly enjoyed witnessing the energy of the event amongst Airmen, industry partners, and AFA members, as these groups came together to experience the latest updates from our US Air Force. The celebration for the 12 Outstanding Airmen of the Year was truly inspiring. Some of the more notable events included Secretary James’ speech and the naming of the B-21 Bomber the “Raider,” assisted by Lt Col (Ret) Richard Cole, co-pilot to General Jimmy Doolittle. General Goldfein’s speech was another highlight as he laid out his three priorities for the Air Force. Lastly the keynote speeches from Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Joseph Dunford and Deputy Secretary of Defense, Bob Work, were spectacular. If you were not able to attend the conference we have video and audio coverage on our website.
Overall, the conference was a great success and we are already planning to set the bar even higher next September. That said, we are not resting on our laurels. We are already on to or next major event, the Air Force Memorial’s 10th Anniversary, scheduled for October 14, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. The Memorial will host a celebration that will feature a heritage flyover, The Air Force Band, Air Force senior leaders, and much more. I hope to see you all at the celebration. We also look forward to our Air Warfare Symposium in Orlando FL, 1 – 3 March 2017.
Your Air Force Association is accomplishing great things. Please encourage your friends and colleagues to join us.
