AFA Honors Heroes Through #70for70 Campaign

Throughout the course of 2017, AFA will be honoring 70 distinguished Airmen who have made significant contributions to our Air Force through innovation, teamwork and heritage with our #70for70 campaign in celebration of the Air Force’s 70th Birthday year. This month, AFA has recognized several remarkable air power advocates including, the Honorable F. Whitten Peters, former Secretary of the Air Force and AFA Chairman of the Board, Kelly Johnson, a renowned aeronautical engineer, and Josh Leary (USAF, TSgt, Ret), Air Force Trials competitor.

AFA celebrated Women’s History Month by honoring many of the Air Force’s female trailblazers, including SSgt Esther McGowen Blake, the first female in the Air Force, Brig Gen Jeannie Leavitt, the first female fighter pilot, Congresswoman Martha McSally, (USAF, Col, Ret), who served as the first female to fly in combat, Heather Carter (USAF, SrA, Ret), 2017 Warrior Games competitor, and Lt Gen Stayce Harris, the first African-American female to achieve the rank of Lt Gen.
